Island Batik January Challenge - Precious Pinks

Its my first challenge of the year as an Island Batik Ambassador.

(and also my 5th year as an Island Batik Ambassador), and I'm very excited to be part of the ambassador program again this year... And what a way to introduce the year with these gorgeous new 'Precious Pinks' available by the yardage.

Head over to https://islandbatik.com/ to find your nearest stockist.

As an Island batik Ambassador we get to see and play with the new collections before they reach the shops - its very exciting.

This year Island Batik has expanded its hand dyed Basics Program, and have developed ten colorways of gradations with 20 steps in each.

Take a look at these beauties...

I began by cutting these into 2 1/2" strips, and joining them together

I then joined these in reverse order in groups of 1, 2, 3 and 4

I wanted to surround the pinks with Island Batik solid black, to make these gorgeous pinks POP!!

Using Aurifil thread, a Schmetz needle in my Brother machine, and the super cosy Hobbs silk blend batting, I quilted this using a simple 4" criss-cross pattern, I love how the pink thread shone out on the black backing fabric and on the front pieces.

I created my own bias binding from the Island Batik solid grey fabric, which I knew would compliment the pinks, and spent a lovely afternoon hand binding this to my quilt

Have you ever made a gradient quilt, which colour did you use? I would love to hear from you.

Be sure to follow me here on my blog, and feel free to take a look around my new shop too

Join me on the 28th January to see all the goodies I received in my Island Batik Ambassador boxes - they are so beautiful, I cant wait to share them with you.

Happy sewing

Michelle
